Here's a video from the Republican debate that deals with the special tuition rates offered to children of illegal immigrants Mike Huckabee supported in Arkansas (HT to Arkansas Journal).
I didn't know about this provision which required these students to be pursuing citizenship in order to qualify. That would make the plan less outrageous. But unsound, nevertheless.
The fact remains that, like example provided by the girl in the video, illegals would receive a taxpayer-funded benefit that children of veterans who came from out of state to Arkansas for college would not be getting. This would also go for ANYONE from another state, such as Missouri, Nebraska or wherever, who was a legal citizen.
Such a measure would also provide an incentive for more illegals to come here to secure these special benefits for their children.
The deeper question about the issue is this: why is Huckabee working so hard to provide benefits to illegals in the first place? In this issue, shouldn't our first priority be removing these invaders from our country, and secondly taking care of our own citizens?
This is not the only area where Huckabee is misguided on illegal immigration (he also wants to give them drivers licenses). And then there are questions about the Mexican consulate he bucked for in Little Rock.
Is Huckabee pandering to illegal aliens? If so, why?
