The "Machine" Goes to Washington

Responding to a previous post on Dakota Voice I opined that Americans would soon see the results of sending the “Chicago Machine” to Washington.

A reader subsequently commented, derisively, “You conservatives can be so cute sometimes.”

Having grown up in the Land of Lincoln (Springfield, no less) and having married a young woman who was the executive secretary to a Chicago-area state legislature for many years I have some understanding of Illinois politics.

A quick Google-search of Illinois governors, secretaries of state and attorneys general of the past decade or two will give the uninformed a good idea of who runs the state, and how. Power, graft and nepotism are how it is done.

In just a few weeks the king-makers in the Daley Machine will put one of their own in the White House. Americans will soon see what Chicago Machine politics is all about. The Blagojevich scandal is only the beginning.

Michael Reagan addresses the same issue in his recent column “The Daley Machine Goes National.”

In 2005, he proved his loyalty to the machine when U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald was investigating corruption in Illinois. Axelrod attacked him for daring to criminalize the sleazy style of politics in Chicago.

In an op-ed piece Axelrod insisted that trading political favors -- including jobs, known as "pay for play" these days -- is an essential part of the process that makes government work.

Axelrod has been the liaison between the Daley Machine and Barack Obama. Giving him a key White House post cannot cleanse him of his association with the endemic corruption of the Daley Machine, which he has long and faithfully served. Send him back to their welcoming arms.

There is no question of Valerie Jarrett's association with the Daley Machine. She once served as Richard Daley's chief of staff and has been described as a key cog in the Daley Machine. That fact alone disqualifies her from serving in the post of advisor to the president of the United States. Moreover, she has been under a cloud of suspicion for her roles in a couple of sordid scandals involving public housing in Chicago.

Blagojevich and the Shape of Scandals to Come

It's only five weeks before Obama's inauguration, and already we have a big scandal. Are you curious at all to see if the drive-by-media will have the same bloodlust for David Axelrod as they did for poor Scooter Libby?

It won't be surprising if Axelrod is thrown under the bus like the rest of Obama's minions. It's the same-old same-old when Barack is caught in a lie. "I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so I was not aware of what was happening concerning any possible dealing about Blagojevich's appointment of a successor."

It again seems strange how disconnected Obama appears to be. Actually, it's unbelievable. He never remembers or knows a thing about the people he has dealings with, especially when they are found in compromising positions.

David Axelrod was asked if Obama had contact with Governor Blagojevich's office. Did they talk about his replacement in the Senate? Unfortunately, Obama's adviser appeared on Fox News on November 23 and said something very different than he now says. Axelrod's statement puts doubt in the mind of many Americans. What did Obama know and when did he know it?

Ironically, another statement was issued by Axelrod saying, "I was mistaken when I told an interviewer last month that the President-elect has spoken directly to Governor Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. They did not then or at any time discuss the subject."

Surely Obama understood what Blagojevich was capable of doing. As it turned out, he had the gall to try to sell Illinois' U.S. senate seat to the highest bidder, while also trying to shake down others for money and political favors. Obama is a Chicago politician with friends that no one I know would associate with.

This week, Rev Jeremiah Wright was back in the news. That piece of information should send up more red flags. Get used to seeing Rev. Bigoted involved once again in Obama's life. It's a sure bet that he really never left. Everything we observed was a sheer facade for the election cycle.

Rahm Emanuel is another questionable character. He sends dead fish to his political enemies. He is well known for his profane, debasing language. He calls himself a practicing Jew. However, he does not seem to be concerned how others might perceive such a religious contradiction. Unfortunately, he is just one more thug known for being a vicious attack dog for the incoming president.

It's almost humorous when Democrats point to others while trying to blacken the eye of the Republican Party. The Speaker of the House continually refers to the GOP as the party of corruption. One might say Pelosi doth protest too much. Nothing can be more obnoxious than the Democrat Party's own corruptive faux pas. They have perfected the art of being bad to the bone.

Jesse Jackson, Jr., has been implicated in the Blagojevich scandal. In spite of his denials, he is probably lying through his teeth, just like his father. You'd have to be totally naive not to understand that Barack Obama, Rohm Emanuel, Jesse Jackson, Jr., and Blagojevich are political cronies. They are part of the notoriously tainted Chicago-Daley political machine.

"CHICAGO — Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday on charges he brazenly conspired to sell or trade President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder as part of what federal prosecutors called a 'political corruption crime spree.' A federal judge later ordered Blagojevich released on his own recognizance.

"Prosecutors did not accuse Obama himself of any wrong doing.

"Blagojevich also was charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in an attempt to strong-arm the newspaper into firing editorial writers who had criticized him.

"The 51-year-old Democrat was also accused of engaging in pay-to-play politics — that is, doling out jobs, contracts and appointments in return for campaign contributions.

"'We were in the middle of a corruption crime spree, and we wanted to stop it,' U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said, calling the charges against Blagojevich 'a truly new low.' He added: 'The conduct would make Lincoln roll over in his grave.

'"Federal investigators bugged the governor's campaign offices and tapped his home phone, capturing conversations laced with profanity and tough-guy talk from the governor. Chicago FBI chief Robert Grant said even seasoned investigators were stunned by what they heard, particularly since the governor had known for three years he was under investigation for alleged hiring fraud." For those who voted for the president elect, another scandal will not matter. They are full-blown ideologue Democrats who want big government handouts. Spreading the wealth around suits them just fine. Just as long as the Obamanites are kept happy, nothing will sway them from cheering as our country slumps deeper into a recession.

America will be torn asunder inside out, politically and socially. And to top it all off Pres, Barack Obama will hand us the egregious gift of Marxist-Socialism and a "corrupt regime."

Gov. Blagojevich, Rev. Wright, Father Plager, Tony Rezko, William Ayers, and Bernadine Dorne are just some of the people who are found knee-deep in Obama's cult of deception. Who else will we find there, after he is sworn into office?

Emanuel May Be On Tape With Blagojevich

Rahm Emanuel may have had discussions with Gov. Blagojevich and the FBI may have the tape according to Chicago news sources. This, despite denials by Emanuel and president-elect Obama. Emanuel has been dodging reporters and has not made any statement about the report as of this post.

Blagojevich Corruption in Center Field

The corruption charges against Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich just keep growing.

Now the governor is accused of threatening to block the sale of Wrigley Field to the state unless the Tribune backed off it's critcism of him. Reportedly he tried to shake down the Chicago Tribune using the Cubs and Wrigley field as leverage.

Of the editorial board, Blag reportedly said, "Fire all those bleeping people." His wife Patty is reported to have had more "colorful" words about the paper, also.

WBBM-TV: Blagojevich portrays himself as a Cubs fan. Now, as CBS 2's Derrick Blakley reports, charges against the governor include allegations he threatened to block the sale of Wrigley Field unless the Chicago Tribune backed off its criticism of him. He even tried to get the editorial board fired.

The Two Faces of Patty

Michelle Malkin had this today about the wife of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. On wiretap tapes the First Lady is heard pronouncing some very un-classy expletives.

Above left is the photo of the First Lady found on he website and in many MSM articles. It seems to have been chosen to portray a certain image of a demure young mother who can best be pictured serving chocolate chip cookies to the kids when they burst through the door after school.

In other news photos she is still an attractive woman but has a look of business and determination. Here, on the right, she can easily be imagined taking on the “good ol’ boys” in the boardroom and driving home that big real estate deal for a six-figure commission. You can decide which of the two is likely heard on the tapes screaming obscenities.

Yesterday, I noted Illinois First Lady Patty Blagojevich’s rather unladylike mouth, as detailed in the criminal complaint against her crooked hubby.

The lovely Patty Blagojevich is the daughter of Chicago alderman Richard Mell. I’m sure that’s where she learned her flowery language and shake-down techniques.
You want an expose, look into the links between the banks owned by Amrish Mahajan (Mutual Bank) and the Giannoulias family (Broadway Bank) and all the state business and real estate deals (including Obama’s) and that ran through those banks. Alexi Giannoulias is the Illinois State Treasurer, who, you might recall, came out of nowhere when he was endorsed by Obama.

Conveniently, Patty Blagojevich is a realtor who has made thousands of dollars in commissions from Hot Rod’s cronies. The Chicago Tribune has detailed the commissions-as-politcal-donations policy of the Blagojevich’s many times.

Basically, the only way to make it big in Chicago politics is to pay to play, and this is an environment in which Obama not only existed but thrived.

To say that corruption in Chicago and Cook County is pervasive would be an understatement. Unfortunately America will now have to live with the decision of chosing a Chicago politician as president and what that means for the nation as favors are repaid over the next four years (and how Chicago will be saddled with debt when it’s inevitably chosen as host for the 2016 Olympics now that America is back in favor with the world).

And let me tell you, Blagojevich isn’t an outlier. Chicago also has the corrupting influences of the Daleys, Jacksons, Strogers, Mells and, of course, Tony Rezko. And they’re just the tip of this nasty, growing iceberg — a city and county that sucks its residents dry via its high property taxes, gas taxes, 10% sales tax, nannyism and myriad of incompetent political hires. I’m feeling all hope and changey.

Sibby points to a funny piece in the Rapid City Journal on the alleged attempt by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to sell President-elect Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat.

CHICAGO — For sale: One Senate seat. Goes to the highest BLEEP-ing bidder. Seller's positive feedback rating: since Tuesday, just about zero.

Seems folks outraged at Blagojevich's wheeling and dealing of the seat of representation of the people have been posting the seat on eBay.

I noticed yesterday that while Obama-advisor David Axelrod said "I know he's talked to the governor," Obama told us he had not talked to the governor. Who to believe...

What's the big deal? Isn't this just how business is done in Chicago politics?

It seems a little surprising that Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been arrested for doing what lots of corrupt politicians--especially from Chicago--have been doing for a long time.

Maybe Blagojevich was just a little too candid about the whole thing...

"llinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich and his Chief of Staff, John Harris, were arrested today by FBI agents on federal corruption charges alleging that they and others are engaging in ongoing criminal activity: conspiring to obtain personal financial benefits for Blagojevich by leveraging his sole authority to appoint a United States Senator; threatening to withhold substantial state assistance to the Tribune Company in connection with the sale of Wrigley Field to induce the firing of Chicago Tribune editorial board members sharply critical of Blagojevich; and to obtain campaign contributions in exchange for official actions – both historically and now in a push before a new state ethics law takes effect January 1, 2009."

Palin Cleared of Troopergate Complaint

From the Anchorage Daily News comes word that a new report from Independent Counsel Timothy Petumenos finds Governor Sarah Palin did nothing wrong or improper in the matter that has become known as Troopergate.

Some time back, the Palin family filed a complaint against state trooper Mike Wooten who was Sarah Palin's brother-in-law until he and Palin's sister divorced.

The complaint alleges that Wooten had been out of control, had tasered his stepson, had drank beer while driving his patrol car, shot a moose illegally, and had made threats of violence against Sarah Palin's father.

Some alleged Gov. Palin abused her authority by seeking to get Wooten fired, and that her firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan had been politically motivated and tied to this incident.

A couple of months ago when the allegations of ethical violations surfaced, Gov. Palin invited the investigation to proceed. One of the great failings in Alaska politics has been massive corruption among public officials, and Palin herself has crusaded against corruption and ethics violations--even against officials in her own Republican Party.

A few weeks ago, a report was issued by an investigator for the state legislature which found that while Palin was within her rights to fire Monegan, she had abused her power by pressuring Monegan to fire Wooten.

The new report released today at a press conference at the Hotel Captain Cook by Anchorage lawyer Timothy Petumenos contradicted the earlier report and found no abuse of power.

From the Anchorage Daily News, findings include:

- There is no cause to believe Palin violated the state ethics law in deciding to dismiss Monegan as public safety commissioner.

- There is no cause to believe Palin violated the state ethics law in connection with Wooten.

- There is no cause to believe any other state official violated the ethics act.

- There's no basis to conduct a hearing to "address reputational harm," as requested by Monegan.

- The state needs to address the issue of using private e-mails for government work and to examine how records are kept in the governor's office. Palin used her Yahoo e-mail account for state business until it was hacked.

It's good that this has been settled, even if it is on the eve of the election.

What would have been nice if, for the last year and a half that Barack Obama has been running, the "mainstream" media would have taken a little time to investigate things like (1) Obama's dealings with the domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, (2) Obama's dealings with Tony Rezko, (3) Obama's dealings with PLO spokesman Rashid Khalidi, (3) Obama's dealings with racist anti-Americans like Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and many other things that were somehow less important than a firing made by a governor who entered the campaign two months ago.

But hey: what else have we come to expect from the "mainstream" media?

Measure 10 ban on tax-funded lobbying fully constitutional

Voting "Yes" on Measure 10 will stop politicians from using our tax dollars for lobbying and political campaigns, prohibit campaign contributions by government contractors, and require posting government contract information on the Internet.

As a lawyer and drafter of Measure 10, I am obliged to set the record straight. Voters can be assured, knowing that such laws in place federally and in other states have been upheld as fully constitutional.

For example, the Hatch Act prohibits federal contractors from making campaign contributions. The Securities and Exchange Commission and a growing number of states have adopted the same restriction.

The SEC prohibits municipal bond underwriters from doing business in states where they've made political contributions within the previous two years, saving taxpayers an estimated $500 million the first year alone. A U.S. Court of Appeals upheld that law in Blount v. SEC, specifically finding that restrictions on "indirect" contributions by underwriters' family members are constitutional in cases where "(the government contractor) is directing their contributions."

Anti-"pay to play" laws, which stop politicians from kicking back government contracts to campaign donors, have been routinely approved by courts nationwide to advance the public's interest in preventing corruption and the appearance of corruption.

States with such laws already in place: Vermont, New Jersey, Connecticut, West Virginia, South Carolina, Hawaii, and Ohio -- plus Illinois, just last month. Like South Dakota, Alaska and Colorado will decide such laws on the ballot.

Other states have adopted industry-specific bans to stop trading of government contracts for campaign contributions. Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Virginia apply such laws to the gaming industry; Delaware and Montana, the insurance industry; Florida, the retail food and insurance industries; and Georgia, public utilities and "all regulated entities."

Measure 10 will empower average citizens to speak without being drowned out by tax-funded lobbyists and tax-financed government contractors.

Everyone knows the Constitution protects every American's free speech, and that no state law or ballot measure can change that. That is why the "No on 10" campaign's television ads are so deceitful. It helps to explain that all those television ads were financed entirely out of state. Liberal NEA union officials in Washington contributed $1.1 million to the "No" campaign, 85 percent of its entire budget.

The majority of that money was collected, by compulsion, from teachers in non-Right to Work states where they can legally be forced to financially contribute to NEA union officials’ political activity as a condition of employment. In layman’s terms, “pay up, or you’re fired.”

The broader off-the-books campaign against Measure 10 is financed with our tax dollars by city, county and school district officials, along with their tax-funded lobbying groups which -- like the NEA’s lobbyists -- also spend our tax dollars lobbying Congress and the legislature for things like gun control and higher taxes.

Compulsory NEA union dues and our own tax dollars are being combined to deceive voters and crush the citizen-led reforms by which Measure 10 would level the playing field for taxpayers.

Measure 10 will end "pay to play" contracts and stop politicians from "laundering" our tax dollars for lobbying and political campaigns. Please vote "Yes," knowing it will simply require state and local politicians to play by the same commonsense, constitutionally-tested ethics already required of our federal officials and in other states.

ACORN Voter Registrations Under Investigation in a Dozen States

Let's not make a mockery of democracy, guys. Yet that is what some are intent on doing.

This kind of corruption and fraud is probably a win-win for liberals.

If they get dead folks, dogs and goats, seven-year-olds, and the Dallas Cowboys football team are registered by ACORN and get away with it, liberals get plenty of free votes.

If they get caught (as they have), allegations of racism, etc. usually follow, which often intimidates people from being as vigilant as they should in ensuring the election process is carried out correctly--still providing wiggle room for liberal election shenanigans.

If they get caught (as they have), it casts doubts on the integrity of the election process and opens the door to the kind of legal wrangling we saw in 2000, and saw a bit of in 2005--which gives liberals wiggle room to squeak out a legal victory, regardless of what the real voters might have decided.

Of course, law and order, the good of the country, the people's faith in their government are all expendable commodities for liberals anyway; all are subordinate to the quest for the power to transform America into a socialist nightmare.

And the assaults on all of these breed more cynicism on the part of the people...which means more people tune out of current events...which means a freer hand to ignore the Constitution and turn this nation into something it was never intended to be.

But as daunting as the task is, some of us remain committed to law and order, and to our republican form of government. And we won't stand idly by while democracy is stolen by the corrupt.

Palin Passed on What Might Have Been a Lethal Shot

I thought Gov. Palins performance last evening was masterful, but I confess I did cringe once when the subject of the financial mess came up. Sen. Biden, true to Democrat talking-points, tried to blame the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac on Republican efforts to relax regulatory oversight. Anybody with just a minimum of understanding knows that to be false, but Gov. Palin’s response was to blame the problem on “greed on Wall Street.” Well, she is wrong, too, and I believe she knows the truth but, following McCain’s lead, declines to voice it in the name of civility and “congressional congeniality.”

The following reports from Fox News concisely place the blame where it belongs—on congressional Democrats and their wealthy cronies. The folks charged with overseeing operations at Fanny and Freddie refused to listen to warnings, choosing instead to reward those responsible for the failed policies, and also helping themselves to a nice piece of the graft for all their trouble.





Democrats are going to continue to try to hang the failures in the lending markets on Republicans, and this may be their most effective stategy, as polls over the past two weeks have shown. Gov. Palin could have (and should have) shot that boat out of the water if only she had been willing to state the facts and call out the Dems on their years of corruption and malfeasance. Barney Frank, Christopher Dodd, Barrack Obama, Jamie Gorelick, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are names of only a few of those who could have acted to prevent the financial meltdown but were busy sucking the teats of the bloated sows called Fannie and Freddie.

Second Head Rolls in Kansas Corruption Scandal as Director of Medical Board Resigns

WICHITA, Kansas, April 2 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Executive Director of the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, Larry Buening, resigned today amid increasing calls for his ouster. Buening tendered his resignation, effective July 1, at a special meeting of the Board that was called to address concerns of ineptitude in handling high profile cases. The Board has been rated as one of the worst in the nation for handling patient complaints.

KSBHA foot-dragging first came to light when Operation Rescue accused the Board of covering up for criminal conduct by late-term abortionist George Tiller in the third-trimester abortion death of Christin Gilbert.

Buening was questioned extensively by a joint legislative committee last fall for failing to enforce the Board's own guidelines when it came to Tiller. He came under further scrutiny when it became public that the Board refused to act for four years to discipline the owner of a "pill mill" in Wichita, which was accused of misprescribing medication that resulted in over 50 deaths.

"As the people of Kansas become more aware of corrupt abortion politics, heads are beginning to roll. First, we had the resignation of former Attorney General Paul Morrison, who was exposed for attempting to use an illicit sexual relationship to illegally influence criminal cases against Tiller and Planned Parenthood. Now we have Buening's resignation, who, more than anyone, has covered up for Tiller indiscretions over the years," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

"We believe this that this trail of corruption winds its way though the current Attorney General's office, the Kansas Supreme Court, and ends at the governor's office. As more of the corruption is exposed, we expect more resignations in the future," said Newman.

There are currently two open complaints against Tiller on file with the KSBHA. One complaint filed in October, 2006, involved illegal late-term abortions and violations of the unaffiliated second physician requirement for post- viability abortions. Tiller has since been criminally charged with 19 counts of that same charge, but the Board, while saying their case is progressing, has yet to act. The second complaint involves a coerced, illegal late-term abortion. That complaint has yet to leave the "investigation" stage.

"We call on Buening's replacement to be appointed by the Legislature rather than by the Gov. Sebelius, who is a radical abortion supporter, or we risk getting someone even worse," said Newman.

Hillary Has More to Explain

Dan Calabrese who writes for North Star Writers Group has an article on-line posted yesterday. In it he interviews Jerry Ziefman, a lifelong Democrat, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate investigation. Ziefman fired Hillary from her position and when asked why he said:

“Because she was a liar,...She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

Monica Thomas-Harris got the chilling news just before Christmas: Her estranged husband, jailed for abducting and threatening her, had been released.

A frantic Thomas-Harris rushed to the district attorney's office, begging for an emergency protection order that would allow police to arrest him if he came near her. But it was the Friday evening before Christmas, and no judge was available. The next business day was Monday, but that was Christmas Eve, and her husband's lawyer was on a long vacation and couldn't be reached for a hearing.

Less than two weeks later, Thomas-Harris, 37, was dead, shot in a motel room by her husband in a murder-suicide.

South Carolina Democrats squashed Stephen Colbert's fanciful White House bid on Thursday.

Colbert, who poses as a conservative talk-show host on the Comedy Central cable network, filed to get on the ballot as a Democratic candidate in his native South Carolina. His campaign paid a $2,500 filing fee just before the noon deadline, said state Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler.

However, after about 40 minutes of discussion by top party officials, the executive council voted 13-3 to keep the host of "The Colbert Report" off the ballot.

"He's really trying to use South Carolina Democrats as suckers so he can further a comedy routine," said Waring Howe, a member of the executive council. And Colbert "serves to detract from the serious candidates on the ballot."

You mean we haven't been watching a comedy routine playing out? One where the joke appears to be on the citizens of the United States of America?

During the closing arguments of the prosecution of Florida citizen Nancy Grant, the assistant prosecutor told the jury, "if someone is telling another person about their civil rights, they are practicing law without a license."

This is the state that allowed a judge to sentence an innocent woman -- Terri Schiavo -- to death by starvation and dehydration.

This is the state that is investigating a judge -- Judge Cliff Barnes -- because "he" filed a complaint alleging inmates were not processed according to the law. (Guess his allegations support Nancy Grant's as for inmates not going to trial in a timely fashion.)

Now, the state is saying that a woman -- Nancy Grant -- can't inform others what their civil rights are, or she is practicing law without a license? Wonder what they are so worried about? They haven't been violating people's civil rights down there in Florida, now have they?
