Hyperion to File Rezoning Application

In a move which would seem to indicate there's an awfully good chance Hyperion may actually build that refinery at Elk Point, the company today said they would be filing an application to rezone the land in question.

From KELO:

The crowd, that spilled out into the hallways of the Union County courthouse had plenty of reaction to what they heard today. In fact the judge had to tell them to contain their comments more than once. Project executive, Preston Phillips said, " We do intend to file an application to rezone the subject land...to build a 400-thousand barrel a day refinery."

Sadly, some folks would rather play the environmentalist card than have thousands of new jobs in the area.

As I've said before, the refinery would not only be good for the local economy, American desperately needs more refineries, as our refining capacity is pretty much maxed.

We haven't built a new refinery in 31 years, and 170 have closed since the last one was built. It's time to take our country back from radical liberals and do what's good for America.

"take back our country from radical liberals"... accepting your dubiious premise that radical liberals rule the country, do you suggest we do better to hand the country over to the amoral corporate elites who command us to do nothing but work and consume? I would think conservation would be a little more in keeping with your philosophy....

That's the difference between business and government. Business can be as immoral as government sometimes. But it has no power to command, as you intimated. Yes, we may need or want its goods and services, but only government can command.

That's why the founders were so much more afraid of the power of government. If business does things that are immoral government may step in. If government becomes immoral, who will step in (especially if it's citizens are asleep and it's influenced by those who are causing the oppression in the first place)?
