LifeSite.net reports the president will veto the "hate crimes" bill if it's passed today:
The Executive Office of the President has issued a statement promising to veto "hate crimes" bill H.R. 1592 should it be approved in Congress today. Concerned Women for America, one of the leading groups fighting the legislation praised the President's move. "We thank President Bush for honoring our nation's constitutional tradition of equal protection under the law," said Matt Barber, Policy Director for Cultural Issues at Concerned Women for America.
This bill is nothing but a muzzle for people who know homosexuality, etc. is immoral and unhealthy, and aren't afraid to say so.
Assault is assault, murder is murder, and so on, regardless of whether the perpetrator loved, hated or felt indifference toward the victim. Perpetrators can and will continue to be charged under applicable statutes without regard to "motive."
It's good to see that President Bush is willing to veto terrible legislation such as this, especially after having let pass so many bad bills (like campaign finance reform, aka the Incumbent Protection Act).
Thanks, President Bush!
