From today's Argus Leader, actor, musician and activist Floyd Red Crow Westerman has died at age 71. The article said he had been ill for some time with leukemia.
Westerman was born on the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation in the northeast corner of South Dakota, and died in Los Angeles.
Westerman was perhaps best known from his role as Ten Bears in the blockbuster "Dances With Wolves." He was in about 20 other movies including Hidalgo, and numerous television appearances.
He will be interred in Veblen, South Dakota on Monday.
