From the Seattle Post-Intelligencer:
Scientists think they have figured out why pregnant women don't lose their balance and topple over despite ever-growing weight up front. Evolution provided them with slight differences from men in their lower backs and hip joints, allowing them to adjust their center of gravity, new research shows.
This elegant engineering is seen only in female humans and our immediate ancestors who walked on two feet, but not in chimps and apes, according to a study published in Thursday's journal Nature.
Isn't that amazing? Isn't evolution smart! You'd almost thing such a difference between men and women, based on their different reproductive roles, was intelligently designed! :-)

Random assortments of electrons protons and neutrons are capable of such marvelous things. Why just a few weeks ago I set a hot turkey carcass on the back deck to cool. I forgot about it for an hour or so and when I looked out I was amazed to see that the carcass had re-animated, grown new organs and feathers and flew away, apparently frightened off by the dogs that left foot-prints all around. I can't think of any other explanation, can you?
Evolution is amazingly capable, isn't it, Theo? Almost seems "intelligent," sometimes...
So true, Bob. As Richard Dawkins said "Biology is the study of complicated things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose." Smart people like Professor Dawkins know, of course, that this is only an illusion. You just can't believe your own eyes or, for that matter, sound scientific inquiry when you know the facts beforehand.
