Liberals Admit: Palin 'Alarmingly Strong'

Michael Crowley at The New Republic says a focus group of "moderate" Democrat friends consider Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin "alarmingly strong."

all agree that Palin was very strong. The more liberal among them are a little panicked.

A little? I'd bet they're in full-tilt hysteria mode.

She is a good speaker, I will admit that. But what policy did she talk about? She bashed community organizers, the media, and the Washington establishment (everyone apparently except McCain). But I'm not sure those things will register with those Independent and not-so-political types that were watching. She did not mention the economy once! Why should we vote FOR her?

Amoung her accomplishments she listed she said she sold the state plane on eBay, and fired the chef. And that she told Congress thanks but no thanks on the Bridge to Nowhere. She failed to mention that when she was running for governor she was FOR the bridge, and that when she was mayor of Wassila she got millions of dollars in Congressional earmarks for her small town AND left it in debt.

She also brought up the experience argument. I was utterly bedazzled. She was poking fun at Obama being a community organizer. At the time he was doing that she was attending the convention of the Alaskan Independence Party. When Obama was a member of the Illinois Senate for 7 years, she was mayor of a town of 6,000 people. Obama has been a United States Senator for 4 years. She has been governor of the 2nd smallest state for a year and a half. And SHE brings up the experience argument?

She also brought up executive experience and said Barack Obama has none. Well Barack Obama's campaign has a larger budget and more employees than Palin's Alaska, and he's been running it longer than she's been running Alaska.

Anyway I think she gave a great speech, and the right wingers clearly loved it. And her family is utterly adorable.
