Palin Isn't the Right Kind of Feminist

This is a look on the O'Reilly Factor at the feminist hatred of Governor Sarah Palin.

Palin is a successful woman, so why don't feminists love her? Because she's not their kind of successful woman, i.e. she's not a pro-abortion zealot.

Bob's rather ignorant description of feminists aside, I often wonder how evangelicals can reconcile their support for Sarah Palin with her blatant disobedience of scripture:

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing." (Ephesians 5:22-24)

Who do you honestly think makes the decisions in the Palin household - the Governor of Alaska and possibly future Vice President of the United States, or the snowmobiler/fisherman? Honestly?

"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." (1 Timothy 2:11-12)

If God didn't want women to have authority in a church, isn't it a little presumptuous of the Barracuda to think she can have authority over an entire state and possibly the entire country, thereby making decisions that affect THOUSANDS of churches? If evangelicals follow scripture so closely, why haven't they branded her a usurper of authority?

"Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers." (1 Peter 3:7)

I would love for someone to ask Governor Palin if she considers herself the "weaker partner" in her relationship. According to the Bible, she is. Do evangelicals really want to put the inferior of two partners in the White House?

Forget what feminists consider a successful woman - in God's eyes there's no such THING as a successful woman, at least not the kind the evangelicals are rallying behind for vice president.

Do we not hear constantly that there is a "separation" of church and state; if there is a separation, is there not a difference?

Specifically in what way is Sarah Palin failing to meet her obligations as a Biblical wife?

I guess some people just don't have an eye for satire.

Since you took my post literally, I might as well ask you why you think a woman should be considered to potentially lead a country, when God wouldn't even trust one to lead a church?

Can you think of any reason why a country and a church might operate differently, and more specifically, might involve different dimensions of leadership?

I can't think of any reason why women shouldn't be allowed to lead a church. Or speak in church, for that matter, as prohibited in 1 Timothy. That's because I am no longer a blindly obedient fundamentalist Christian.

If I still depended on a book (rather than my brain) for my every thought and action, I would agree with God that female anatomy intrinsically makes you an unsuitable candidate for church leadership. Only in the context of religion can you say, "Women can't be good church leaders because they're women" and get away with it. Political correctness is a wonderful thing when it works to your advantage.
