The Hill Highlights Chris Lien's ANWR Trip

Last month the Rapid City Journal reported that U.S. House of Representatives candidate Chris Lien of Rapid City will join other U.S. House candidates in visiting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to see the area for themselves and to promote drilling in the area.

Lien said last month:

"In the past 35 days, I have traveled to all 66 counties in South Dakota and the number one concern on everyone's mind is the cost of gas and fuel. Yet, all we see from Congress is more political posturing without any solutions."

Today the national publication, The Hill, picked up on this trip, primarily focusing on fellow trip participant Craig Williams, who is challenging Democrat Joe Sestak of Pennsylvania:
“With gas prices at an all-time high, we need to take steps now to reduce our dependence on foreign oil,” said trip participant Craig Williams, who is challenging Joe Sestak (D-Pa.). “We have energy resources available to us domestically that can cut our dependence on foreign oil and provide a bridge to tomorrow when we can more heavily rely on renewable energy resources such as hydro-electric, solar and wind power.”

Liberals love to protest that drilling in ANWR won't bring relief for several years. But if we'd begun drilling there several years ago when reasonable people wanted to, we'd already have that oil in our gas tanks. And we probably wouldn't be paying over $4.00 a gallon at the pump.

We need people with this kind of leadership and proactive vision in D.C., not politicians who pander to special interests or environmental extremists.
