No Bang for the Buck

According to CNS News and a report released by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, we're not getting much from the trillions of dollars we're spending on the federal government.

The scorecard found that agencies receiving below-satisfactory average scores accounted for 87 percent of federal spending in fiscal year 2006 ($2.18 trillion). It measured agencies on transparency, their reporting of public benefits, and leadership.

'Federal agencies seem to have a hard time explaining to the American people how their work improves the lives of ordinary citizens,' Maurice McTigue, director of the center's Government Accountability Project, told a Capitol Hill press conference.


Expecting results from government: what a novel idea. Anybody game?
