Twin to Twin Transfusion: Abortion Not the Only Option

If you live in South Dakota, by now you've probably seen or heard about the ads from the pro-abortion South Dakota Campaign for UnHealthy Families which uses the rare Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome” as an excuse to call for a "No" vote on South Dakota's pro-life Initiated Measure 11.

Doctors have recently exposed this pro-abortion propaganda for what it is.

Today, VoteYesForLife.com posted an email they received from a woman whose twins had TTTS. This woman points out that abortion is not the only option to save one or both of the twins.

How ironic (but sadly not totally unexpected) that a pro-abortion group dedicated to maintaining access to abortion for birth control would use the argument of "saving a child" in the hopes of keeping legal a procedure to kill children.

Be Not Afraid has four stories from parents who faced a diagnosis of TTTS. Since typically there's a three-link limit, I'll share two per comment.

Carolyn carried both her sons to term after surgery to offset some of the damage. One of the twins was left with disabilities, but his family treasures him.

Katie's doctor offered abortion, allowing both babies to just die on their own, doing a procedure to reduce excess amniotic fluid around one twin, or fetoscopic surgery to close off some of the troublesome blood vessels. She chose amnioreduction and has beautiful twin daughters.

Two more stories from Be Not Afraid:

Shannon was quickly referred for treatment to save both her babies.

Brook's doctor laid out her options: Decompressive amniocentisis gave a 67% chance of saving one twin, he said. Surgery (Brook didn't specify what kind) would give a 75% chance of one twin surviving. And tying off one baby's cord, sacrificing his life outright, would give the brother an 80% chance of surviving. Before she could make a decision, she developed further complications.
