Mikel LeFort, the editor of the Rapid City Journal, says at his Typos and tribulations blog today that a reader stopped in and confronted them about the biased headlines the Journal ran on the Democrat and Republican conventions.
Like the rest of the media pack, the headlines were all roses and excitement for the Democrats, while for the Republicans it was all gloom, doubt and troublesome.
LeFort admits the Journal erred.
I greatly appreciate LeFort's admission of this. That is far more than the vast majority of the media will do. Most pretend there is no such thing as media bias.
While I'm still not satisfied with the balance and objectivity of reporting at the Journal, I've said before and I'll say again that it has improved since LeFort came on board a couple of years ago.
Like they say with boozers, just admitting you have a problem is half the battle. I appreciate LeFort's honesty and hope it will keep the Journal on their toes in the future.
Most conservatives aren't looking for a cheering section from the media; just some fairness, balance and objectivity.
