Supreme Court Gun Rights Decision: Three Important Points

The Supreme Court's gun rights decision is significant for these three reasons:

1)The framers' view of the right to own and carry arms is restored.
2)The decision is an example of judicial restraint.
3)The District of Columbia's complete ban on handguns was ruled unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court's decision on the right to keep and bear arms is nothing less than the affirmation of the principle of "government by the people." Neither state nor federal government can capriciously suspend the right of Americans to retain the means to resist tyranny. It is no coincidence that every totalitarian regime in modern times has had to first disarm the people before it could impose oppression and dictatorial control. The Supreme Court rightly preserved our unique form of government and would-be tyrants will have to contend with a populace that has the means to credibly say "hell no!"
